The Kraken is a sea monster of gigantic proportions, said to dwell off the coasts of Norway and Greenland. Since the late 18th century, they have primarily been depicted as large, octopus-like creatures, allegedly based on sailors’ observations of giant squid. However, in earlier descriptions, the Kraken is more crab-like, with traits akin to a whale rather than those of a giant squid.
